Foraging Honu

Every piece tells a story.

The FORAGING HONU is a one-of-a-kind mixed-media shadowbox handcrafted by BEBETTER artist Alina-Bella using microplastics recovered during our Kahuku Beach cleanups. Featuring a vibrant green sea turtle swimming above a bed of seaweed, its shell is carefully crafted from green microplastics. This piece transforms ocean pollution into a beautiful reminder of the marine life we work to protect and the importance of keeping their habitats free from debris.

✨MORE ABOUT THIS PIECE

While young green sea turtles eat a variety of marine animals and plants, adults primarily feed on algae and seagrasses. By grazing on marine vegetation, they help regulate algal growth and support the balance of coastal ecosystems. Unfortunately, floating plastics and other marine debris can be mistaken for food or accidentally swallowed while feeding. Ingested plastic can cause serious digestive injuries, blockages, and even death.
